We work with clients to communicate effectively both internally and externally with employees, key stakeholders and a variety of publics.

Experience

  • Developed and managed an innovative and extensive public information and involvement effort for the $75-million SR51 Piestwa Peak Freeway design-build renovation. This 10-mile corridor included additional lanes, new noise walls and extensions, drainage features, bridges and a new rubberized asphalt overlay. Project was completed in two years under traffic and in a highly congested residential area.

  • Managing communication effort for Arizona Department of Transportation Quiet Roads program. (Addition of smoother, quieter rubberized asphalt to the Phoenix urban freeway system.

  • Developed and implemented an internal and public communication plan for HB Zachry's construction of a new Arizona electric generation facility.

  • Developed a public communication strategy for the expansion, construction and air quality permit revision for a cement kiln and manufacturing facility in north-central Arizona.

  • Organized and facilitated a highly contentious public meeting regarding the siting and permitting of a proposed 500+ megawatt electrical generating facility near Kingman, Arizona.

  • Special Assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). Managed communication with the public, news media, the regulated businesses, and all levels of government. Communicated official policy and served as the agency spokesperson for thousands of print, radio and television interviews on waste, water, air quality, and emergency response issues.

  • Managed community relations activities for 70 Arizona hazardous waste and federal Superfund sites. Wrote, produced and edited agency publications and assisted scientists and engineers with public outreach of regulatory programs and issues statewide.

  • Worked with the ADEQ Air Quality Division and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program contractor to develop a public and media campaign for the vehicle inspection program, I/M240. Worked with a public relations contractor to develop media kits and public information fact sheets. Held media briefings and news conferences and served as principal spokesperson appearing on television and radio talk shows. Worked with contractor Hughes Systems to develop materials and serve as spokesperson for new Remote Sensing "Smog Dog" program.

  • Developed outreach, media and public service campaign for Tucson, Arizona’s Central Arizona Project (CAP) Use Study for Quality Water. Secured public service spots on television, cable and radio stations during critical times of project outreach. Garnered extensive TV coverage including a prime-time televised townhall event co-produced by Tucson's largest daily newspaper and local NBC affiliate.

  • Managed emergency public health information "consumption advisory" after discovery of high levels of pesticides from sport fish in Painted Rock Reservoir and the Lower Gila River Watershed. Developed and distributed materials and erected warning signs in a remote area that is fished for sustenance by a nearby low income and transient community.

  • Helped develop communication strategy and conducted media training in response to public opposition for Motorola in Austin, Texas.

  • Developed and managed communication strategy and served as spokesperson for Motorola Corporation in a $1 billion class action lawsuit alleging personal injury and property damage resulting from environmental contamination.

  • Developed marketing and news media relations strategy for the Clean Air Campaign conducted in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Worked with government agencies, news directors, and the national weather service to develop methods to broadcast pollution advisories. Developed story ideas and promoted their coverage, guided interviews, and served as a news media source.

  • Managed strategy and news media relations program for air quality environmental issues surrounding the National Football League's Super Bowl XXX.

  • Co-chaired committee comprising public affairs professionals from numerous public and private organizations to influence public and political opinion prior to 1993 Arizona Legislative special session dealing with Phoenix metropolitan area air quality. Secured extensive media coverage of the health, social and economic implications of the issue and served as a spokesperson. Coverage increased public understanding, and effort was credited with being instrumental in the resulting legislative action.

  • Served as liaison for ADEQ to the Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) on Clean Air and Rideshare public service and media awareness campaigns for the Phoenix metropolitan area. Helped coordinate multi-agency efforts and worked with a local advertising/public relations contractor to develop creative, plan media and execute the annual campaign.

  • Worked with Maricopa County, Arizona to develop and implement public information and media components of mandatory "no burn" fireplace restrictions. Proposed and developed two pollution alert criteria, devised media alert system notice plans, served as spokesperson, and increased media interest and exposure over.
